The Asia Biomass Office of the New Energy Foundation won the Energy Business Awards, Asia 2009 of APPEC
The Asia Biomass Office of the New Energy Foundation won the Silver Award in the category of "Excellence in New Energy" in "the Energy Business Awards, Asia 2009(EBAAs)". The prize-giving ceremony was held in Singapore on 3 November 2009 during the 25th APPEC (Asia-Pacific Petroleum Conference)".
The EBAAs are given by APPEC to the companies or organizations that have obtained excellent results in the energy business in Asia. This time is the third occasion, and the Asia Biomass Office became the first prizewinner in Japan.
The Asia Biomass Office is the shortened name of the Asia Biomass Energy Cooperation Promotion Office that was created in the New Energy Foundation in 2007. The mission of Asia Biomass Office is to carry out the contracted projects under the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), so as to support promoting introduction of biomass energy in East Asian countries.
Since January 2009, Asia Biomass Office has operating a website "The Asia Biomass Office" that is sending various biomass-energy related information including latest news and databases of Japan and southeast Asia, to the world every month through English and Japanese. Our web pages include a lot of illustrations, photos, graphs and tables, which are getting a favorable reputation like - "It is easy to understand because the articles tell the background," "The page design is attractive and easy to read," and so on.
The process of the Energy Business Awards is open to anyone or any organizations and nomination and selection vote are carried out using a website. According to the secretariat the number of votes in this year exceeded 9,000. The fact that Asia Biomass Office won the prize getting through this fair screening process could be considered that our activities so far has been appreciated and widely known to overseas. We hereby report our achievement with hearty thanks to our stakeholders and supporters in Japan as well as in abroad who provided us with good understanding and kind cooperation.
