News Report on Asian Researchers

¡ÈThe Asia Biomass Researchers Invitation Program-FY 2009¡É administered and supported by the New Energy Foundation (NEF) is now progressing smoothly. Twenty five invited researchers and/or engineers from Asian countries have conducted various researches in Japan. We introduce their research as well as their daily life in Japan 3 times.

Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Chugoku (AIST Chugoku) Biomass Technology Research Center (BTRC) invited 3 researchers from Vietnam in 2009. We made an interview with Ms. Diep Quynh Nhu and Ms.Nguyen Thi Hoa who returned home at the end of December in 2009. They conduct research at Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in Vietnam. Ms. Nhu belongs to Institute of Tropical Biology and the research theme is biofuel. Production. Ms. Hoa belongs to Institute of Environmental Technology and researchs methane production from waste biomass.

Ms. Diep Quynh Nhu stayed at AIST Chugoku for 6 months. Her research title was to produce hydrogen and ethanol from biomass using electrochemical techniques, under Dr.Yagishita, researcher of Biomass Technology Research Center. She applied ¡ÈThe Asia Biomass Researchers Invitation Program-FY 2009¡É for the reason that she wanted not only to study the biomass utilization most but also to build relationship between Japanese researchers and Vietnam researchers.

During stay in Japan, she made research tour Hokkaido and Kyusyu at the comment ¡È It was very significant for me to discuss biomass with Japanese researchers¡É. On holiday she visited sightseeing spot such as Yamaguchi and Hiroshima, enjoyed Japanese culture and splendid nature to the full. She admits ¡ÈThe researchers of AIST Chugoku are very kind. I enjoyed research at AITS Chugoku ,among splendid nature of the Seto Inland Sea, and ate Japanese fresh fish such as Sashimi willingly. If there is an opportunity, I want to come to Japan again. In Vietnam I tell what I learned in Japan to my colleague¡É

Ms. Hoa is to conduct a basic research for culture experiment of green algae and ethanol production from algae under Dr Mishima researcher of Biomass Technology Research Center. She visited Hokkaido and Yokohama for research, all over the period of 3 months staying in Japan. She mentioned¡¡¡È I could really observe the conversion technology of biomass in Japan and was good for me. In near future I want to visit more institute in Japan.¡É

Ms.Hoa talked us ¡È I could learn knowledge and/or information of biomass as well as method, how to work on researches. AITS Chugoku has a very nice research environment, equipped with various experimental devices. I can expect much result for a longer term when I settle down and research it.¡É Dr Mishima emphasized the result of her study, telling us ¡ÈIn spite of short stay at AOTS Chugoku, Ms. Hoa gave a very interesting experiment results for growth rate and the water purification effect of the algae. We continue experiment it more and announce the article jointly from now on.¡É
