¡ÈThe Asia Biomass Researchers Invitation Program-FY 2009¡É administered and supported by the New Energy Foundation (NEF) is now progressing smoothly. Twenty five invited researchers and/or engineers from Asian countries have conducted various researches in Japan. We introduce their research as well as their daily life in Japan 3 times.

Ms. Rafidah Jalil (from Malaysia)
Ms. Jalil from Malaysia came to Japan at the begging of October, 2009 and returned home at the end of December. She came to Japan for the first time in October, 2008 and stayed only for a one week. This visit was second and she stayed to research for 3 months. She researched at Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Chugoku (AIST Chugoku) Biomass Technology Research Center (BTRC), located at Kure city in Hiroshima Prefecture
In Malaysia she conducts research at Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM). Her theme is bio-ethanol and bio-diesel production from Jatropha which is abundant in Malaysia. She researched on gasification of ligno-cellulosic biomass and catalytic syntheses of synthetic fuel under the director of the center, Dr.Sakanishi and research scientist, Dr. Miyazawa at AIST Chugoku.

Ms. Jalil¡¡and Dr. Miyazawa of AIST Chugoku.
Ms Jalil has not researched on gasification of biomass in Malaysia. She wrestled with this theme for the first time at AITS Chugoku, and then she finished writing a report in three months . She told us powerfully ¡ÈBiomass gasification carried at AITS gave me useful experience and knowledge and/or information. When I go back to Malaysia , I want to build my own gasification system to produce synthegas by making use of this valuable experience .¡É
At the beginning of her stay in Japan, Ms Jalil got homesick and felt lonely. But AITS staff and researcher contact warmly with her and called out to her ¡È Good morning Ms Jalil¡É in morning . She told us with smile ¡È This Good morning delighted me very much and I got possible to spend happy days¡É
During her stay in Japan, she visited Hokkaido for research. On holidays she made trip to sightseeing places such as Shikoku Island and Hiroshima and accessed to various aspects of Japanese culture. She enjoyed Japanese food ¡ÈNatto¡É, ¡ÈTempura¡É and ¡ÈSushi¡É. Everyday she went to Chugoku Center by bicycle. The interview ended with her remark ¡È I have rode a bicycle after a 15 year absence. It is good for health to ride a bicycle. I became fond of riding. Ms.Jalil could get excellent results of biomass-research as well as her own healthy improvement in Japan.
