Initial Results of Research into Biofuel Use in Vietnam |
 |
 |
For research into and production of clean fuel for transportation needs, a number of organizations such as Petrolimex, PetroVietnam and Danang Technical University have studied the use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and their research has been put into practical application. Several organizations have researched, blended and tested ethanol that they say could be used as a fuel in place of gasoline to power internal-combustion engines, or Methyl ester that could be utilized as a biodiesel in separate labs. Noticeably, petroleum additives firm APP, Saigon Petro, Lam Son Sugar and Cane Joint Stock Co. in Thanh Hoa Province have attended many international conferences on biofuel, and established relations with foreign organizations active in the biofuel sector. They plan to test-blend biofuel before they start producing it, on an appropriate scale, for test-use. The alcohol and beer research institute NGK has also proceeded with a project to research the use of ethanol as a substitute fuel for a number of engine types and the outcome is promising. In recent years, APP has blended and tested lubricant oil by using phyto-chemical fat. The Ministry of Science and Technology has assigned APP to lead a State-level project: “Researching technology for production of biofuel blended with ethanol and some vegetable compounds.”Lab research has been done and preparations are under way to test-use this biofuel on vehicles on a large scale. Danang Technical University has test-used ethanol on motorcycles. The Institute of Food Industry has been selected to lead a State-level project to research the production of ethanol from agricultural scrap based on enzyme and microorganic technology. |
